First, make sure you write about something you are interested in. A big problem is that we mimic the success of others. Choosing to write about a popular niche or topic just so it will generate a lot of hits is setting your self up for failure. Just because someone has received a lot of traffic writing about cars does not mean it will work for you. They are interested in cars therefore when they write about it they not only have some prior knowledge but they get into the article more easily because it is personal.
Having a personal feel to your articles is a great way to attract readers. They feel you are interested in what you are writing so you probably know what you are talking about. Remember back to when you were in school, your favorite teacher was most likely one that was very enthused about what he or she was teaching and taught in a way that made you excited about learning it.
You want to connect with your reader. People relate better to stories or to people they know. Starting your article with a story or a quote, by a famous person, draws your reader in. Be sure that the quote or story relates to the topic. A catchy title is also always helpful. Titles that describe exactly what the article is about like, “top ten ways to make money online” are fine but a title with mystery and intrigue will spark a reader’s interest to read on. Haven’t you ever read a book or watched a movie simply because of the title?
Next, and this is very important, be bold. You have something to say, say it and mean it. You want your article to stand apart from the many that are already out there. Use an active voice when you are writing. The problem with passive voice is that it is over used by writers. Instead of saying, “the internet is used to make an income by many marketers” reword it, “many marketers are using the internet to make an income”. Active voice is more direct and less wordy.
Avoid over using adjectives and adverbs. These types of words make claims. Rather, employ nouns and verbs because they report facts. You will sound more confident, and your reader will take you seriously. Thus they are ready to do business with you when they pay a visit to your site. Now, when I say be bold that does not mean you should put uppercase letters, bold text or exclamation marks all over your article. Your article should look clean and professional.
These simple tricks will give you a good quality article. Remember this is not a diary. You are writing with the hope that you may reach out to someone enough for them to want to visit your site. It may be hard to fathom, but this is not about you, it is about your reader.
