The founder of ParaMind Brainstorming Software is releasing a new book based
on computers creating almost every possible idea. The software allows one to work with language outside of the usual limitations in thinking. It does this by "exhausting the interactions of words" in order to facilitate new ideas. Through his book, the author describes the idea as a humanitarian problem solving technique rather than a way to glorify technology.
- Robert Pearson, the founder of ParaMind Brainstorming Software, is releasing a new book based on the idea behind his software. This program belongs to a not well known class of software called "brainstorming software." The ParaMind program is different than others of these programs because it allows one to work with language outside of the usual limitations in thinking. It does this by "exhausting the interactions of words" in order to facilitate new ideas.
The new book is called "The Exhaustion of the Interaction of Words: Idea Creation with ParaMind Brainstorming Software." It will be released on November 17, 2006 by Telical Books of Seattle.
ParaMind Brainstorming Software has been releasing versions of its program since 1992. Other types of creative thinking or brainstorming software often asks the user endless questions, or are sophisticated flow charts. ParaMind was the first program to generate new text based on a sophisticated brainstorming theory. It gives back brainstorms after the user types in any sentence and makes a few key clicks.
ParaMind Brainstorming Software is the result of investigation into how to create ideas by computer-human interaction. Some ideas in its theory can be shown going back hundreds of years in philosophy. Since the 13th Century, philosophers have discussed the idea that it was possible to generate ideas by creating machines or by a new type of study that would be a cross between literature and mathematics. Since the mid-1980's, Pearson has been writing on this idea formulated by the simple expression, "the exhaustion of the interactions of words."
Pearson says, "A good dictionary should contain all the words that the books of our library contain in that library's main language. Our library is merely the intelligent interactions of the words of our dictionary in meaningful ways. If we were to exhaust the meaningful interactions of our words, we would come up with new discoveries that we are bound to stumble upon in the future by the slower ways we currently come up with ideas."
"It's more important to experience this practically, than to just think about it. For this purpose, I have created the project called, "One Million Pages." The average large merge with new standard version of ParaMind comes to 500 pages. If we create six of these per hour, the program can generate 3000 pages per hour. At 3000 good pages an hour, one could work eight hours a day, creating 24,000 merged pages a day. At the end of a five day work week, one would have 120,000 pages. So in a little over eight weeks, one would create one million pages of new merged ideas."
Through his book, Pearson describes the idea as a humanitarian problem solving technique rather than a way to glorify technology.
